Saved until last at the Apple event, the much anticipated iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have been confirmed.
On the surface they look similar to last year’s iPhone 6 models, with instead the main differences taking place inside the device:
The headline addition this year is 3D Touch – a pressure sensitive technology that means that when more pressure is applied to a tap, a new shortcut menu appears on-screen. This can also be used to glance at emails and messages without actually opening them.
The rear-facing iSight camera has also been redesigned and now has a 12 megapixel lens. This camera can now also record 4K video.
On the front too there have been upgrades, the front-facing camera now has a five megapixel lens and a flash provided by the screen.
A new photos feature called Live Photos has also been introduced – this creates short moving versions of your photos – that play when you use 3D Touch on them – and are captured by extended the period the phone captures just before and after you take a photo.
Siri, the digital assistant housed in the iPhone, can now be accessed using just your voice, by saying “Hey Siri.” Does this mean it’s listening all the time? Who knows, but it’s a creepy thought.
