Microsoft has taken some big strides with some of its hardware recently – the new Surface Book laptop and Surface Studio desktop are already being regarded as genuine threats to Apple’s products.
But an area the Windows maker remains quiet is in smartphones.
Despite sizeable efforts to make their mobile business smaller in the last year or so, it still seems inevitable to some that a new Windows Phone will appear at some point.
Twitter user Evan Blass, who has a very good track record when it comes to leaks and predictions of upcoming products, teased such an idea on his account recently.
Tom Warren from The Verge was quick to pour some cold water on the idea, suggesting it was just a concept. Which drew an intriguing reaction from Blass, who suggested it was more than a concept and that we should “stay tuned”.
As Blass’s first tweet also made mention of, there are suggestions that any such phone could house a laptop-level Intel processor and be capable of running full Windows 10.
Having just held a product event, it’s unlikely we’d see anything else for Microsoft until the new year – but there can be no denying that as an alternative to iOS and Android, it would be a potent option to put in front of consumers.
