The new Spectrum ZX is busy breaking crowd-funding records

Love for retro tech is clearly not going away, with a new version of the classic Spectrum ZX from Sir Clive Sinclair having just gone past 300% of its funding goal on Indiegogo.

The original funding goal for the Vega+, a new handheld version of the Spectrum that comes with over 1,000 games built in, was £100,000 over a month. However the Vega+ has already been backed to the tune of more than £300,000, and there’s still more than two weeks left to run on the campaign.

It’s now become one of the most successful campaigns on the site ever, having broken Sir Clive’s own previous Indiegogo fundraising record of £155,677 in less than three days. The sum raised is already more than that gathered for the previous generation Vega console.

The Vega+ will come with the capability to run all 14,000 or so games that were developed during the years the original Sinclair Spectrum was on-sale. All of these are free to download, and the device can be connected to your TV for full-screen gameplay too.

The new devices are due to ship in September this year, and pledges of £100 on the Indiegogo page earn users a device as well as a place on the roll of honour that will be embedded onto the device.
