Oculus Rift’s virtual reality headset will go on sale in March, bringing high-end virtual reality to mainstream consumers for the first time.
The Facebook-owned company has opened pre-orders for the headset, which will cost £499.
But those wanting one will need to already own a PC powerful enough to run the Rift and its 360-degree, 3D experiences.
The firm’s website is already reporting high demand, with shipping dates already being pushed back to May, and customers being limited to one device each.
Oculus founder Palmer Luckey tweeted, confirming the news; “Preorders for Rift are live. Go go go”, he said.
As well as the headset, those who pre-order the Rift receive a remote Xbox One controller for gaming, as well two launch games – EVE Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale.
The companion Touch controller, which works by enabling users to interact with objects they see in the virtual world, will not be part of the launch, with Luckey confirming that preordering a Rift places customers in the queue to get a Touch, which is set to become available later this year.
