Two of Oculus Rift’s exclusive VR games have been hacked by developers to run on rival headset, the HTC Vive.
Download patches for Lucky’s Tale and Oculus Dreamdeck have been posted to open source site GitHub, along with instructions on how to get the games running on the alternative headset.
Both devices have started shipping to users in the last few weeks, with each relying on a range of exclusive titles in order to entice users in. The Rift runs OculusVR, while the Vive is powered by Valve’s already hugely popular Steam platform.
The GitHub post also appeared to suggest that any Oculus game could be transported on to Vive, with the description on the GitHub post hinting that “workarounds” existed that meant this process could be applied to any game.
Gaming site Polygon, which tried out the patch, reported that both Oculus games not only worked, but also supported the Vive’s movement tracking, meaning that unlike in the Rift version, you could walk around scenes within the game. Oculus doesn’t support such a feature.
The third of the major VR systems, PlayStation VR, which does not require a gaming PC, instead plugging into a PlayStation 4, is set to launch later in the year.
