There’s a new world record for completing Super Mario Bros in the fastest time possible after a retro gamer shaved a quarter of a second off his previous record.

Twitch gamer Darmian raced through the course in 4:57.260 earlier this week – beating his previous record set in January of 4:57.427.

During his latest record run, the young gamer’s heart rate reached 172 beats per minute as he approached the final level.

Darmian had also held the previous record set in October 2015, and has said his latest time means he will hang up his controller as it accounts for a near-perfect run.

He wrote on the video description : “I have reached my potential in this category – I’m done! My quest is over.”

The best possible time that a tool-assisted speedrun can achieve, according to TASVideosChannel, is recorded at 04:57.31.
