SBTV are now curators on Apple Music

Big news for all the grimeheads out there – SBTV are now curating on Apple Music, the tech giant’s streaming service.

Curators pop up in a dedicated section of the app, with the idea to help the user find music they’re interested in that has been recommended by a source they trust. It’s basically like listening to a set from your favourite DJ in order to find something new.

Some of the artists you can expect to feature on SBTV’s first playlist had a big part to play in UK music in the early 2000s – before grime was ever called that as well as after it was given a label – such as Dizzee Rascal, Bruza, and the Choong Family. The playlist is called Ready To Pair: Bluetooth Classics – a nod to anyone whose younger years consisted of bluetooth-ing the latest freestyle or set to their friends from their Sony Walkman phone.

SBTV has built up a trusted reputation since being founded by Jamal Edwards MBE nine years ago – who started what is now a global brand with nothing but his camera, a YouTube channel, and an ear for good music.

Since then the likes of Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, Jessie J and Rita Ora have been championed on the platform before becoming household names, and SBTV continue to shine a light on emerging talent.

SBTV has since racked up over 300 million global views for its videos.

Jamal said: “We are very excited about joining Apple Music. We are all about supporting talent regardless of an act’s current popularity or hype, and we are seeing this with Apple Music’s curator playlists, which are doing great work spotlighting new and untapped music talent.

“We have a global following but our new Apple Music channel will be a great opportunity to magnify the reach of the artists we support! We wanted to kick things off with a playlist, which paid homage to the pioneers. Dizzee, Bruza and Choong Family were all influential in the early 2000s and it’s great to be able to include them in our first Apple Music Playlist.”

Apple Music already featured some grime playlists, although mostly singles that have come out over recent years. In this respect SBTV will be a welcome addition for anyone who uses Apple Music, and their playlists are sure to consist of more than just grime.

If you’re an Apple Music user and wish to find SBTV, look for the “curator playlists” section in the “new” tab.
