In a week where virtual reality has dominated discussions in the tech world, Sony is nearly ready to share some more news of its own.
The maker of PlayStation VR, which is due out later this year, has confirmed an event next month to discuss the device further.
Price, release date, and the system’s set-up could all be on the agenda on March 15. Pricing for rival premium VR systems from Oculus and HTC has already been confirmed, with the Oculus Rift going on sale for $599 (£430) next month, while HTC’s Vive is going on sale in April for $799 (£570).
Crucially though, the two systems also require a powerful gaming computer in order to run, while PlayStation VR is set to work by plugging it into a PS4 console – potentially giving Sony a major headstart when it comes to “VR-ready users”.
The event comes during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, and as the invite suggests there will be plenty of hands-on time after the announcement, so whatever the people at Sony have up their sleeve it’s going to require some hands-on experience.
