Good news for everyone who’s ever attempted to get from one side of London to another at 4.30am after indulging in some alcoholic beverages and completely losing the ability to navigate night buses: Uber is here to stay!
The High Court ruled that Uber does not break the law after Transport for London (TfL) had sought clarification as to whether the smartphone app breaks the law by operating in the same way as meters used by more strictly regulated black cabs to calculate fares.
Section 11 (1) of the Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act 1998 bars all private hire cars from being “equipped” with taximeters.
Lots of Uber fans were quick to rejoice.
