WhatsApp outage sparks panic among users

WhatsApp users were up in arms on Friday morning as the messaging service went down across the globe for 45 minutes.

The service failed at around 8.30am – showing just a buffer wheel and a “connecting” message when users tried to get online.

The Facebook-owned service has more than a billion users around the world – many of whom were affected by the issue.

The UK was hit, as well as Russia, South Africa, parts of India, Malaysia, Spain and Germany, according to Downdetector.co.uk.

In response, thousands took to Twitter to express their dismay at the interruption to their social lives.

But users were in higher spirits when the service returned at around 9.15am.

And all was right with the world again.

At the time of writing however, the messaging service was still to comment on the cause of the outage.
