2,000 islanders get booster vaccines in first week

Thursday 30 September 2021

Around one in four islanders over the age of 80 got a covid booster shot within the first week of appointments becoming available.

According to statistics released by Government this afternoon, 2,002 booster doses had been administered by Sunday (26 September).

Appointments for high-risk islanders will begin on Monday (4 October).

Due to the high number of islanders receiving boosters, walk-in appointments for those yet to receive a first or second dose of the covid jab must be booked online or by calling the Coronavirus helpline on 0800 735 5566.

The Government also started offering a single dose of the Pfizer vaccine to 12 to 15-year-olds at the beginning of this week. By Wednesday, 80 children had taken up the offer.

Officials said they would provide updated statistics for this age group next week.

Overall, more than 77,000 islanders have had at least one dose of the covid vaccine.
