Armed police called out to knife incident

Tuesday 13 October 2015

Armed police were called out to reports of a man brandishing a knife in the street in the north of town late on Sunday morning.

Specially-trained firearms officers were deployed when the police were called about a “serious disturbance” near Unifare in the road that runs through Le Geyt flats between Grands Vaux and Springfield Stadium.

A man has been charged in relation to the incident - 41-year-old Paulo Jorge Da Silva is set to appear in the Magistrate's Court this morning to face a charge of affray.

A police statement yesterday afternoon said that although they have arrested a man who fits the description of the man armed with the knife, they would like any witnesses to come forward.

They said: “At approximately 11.50 am three men were seen in the area and one of the men had allegedly brandished a knife.

“The man seen with the knife was described as being about 5’7” tall with dark hair, wearing a light blue polo shirt with horizontal pale stripes, and was of Mediterranean appearance.

“This man ran from the area towards Springfield stadium. A man fitting the description has been arrested but Police would like to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed the incident or has any information.”
