A 37-year-old man is to appear in the Magistrate's Court this morning to be charged with attempting to rob a supermarket at knifepoint.
St. Helier resident Eduard George Gheorghe was charged last night by Police in relation to the alleged 'hold-up' attempt, which they said took place in Morrisons on Gloucester Street on Friday (24 January) around 22:00.
The arrest comes after an appeal to the public for more information about a "black or dark blue" Mercedes car - "possibly a C Class" - spotted driving in the area at the time.
Shortly after midnight on Monday, Police released a statement saying that they had made an arrest and that the vehicle had been recovered.
Eduard George Gheorghe is now due to appear in the Magistrate's Court at 10:00.
