Avoid A&E during records switchover, islanders warned

Friday 26 May 2023

Islanders are being told to only visit the Emergency Department for "genuine medical emergencies" this weekend amid concerns that the switchover to a new electronic patient records system will cause delays.

The Government said it was issuing the advice to help Hospital staff to prioritise the most critical cases during the transition.

The change of system could lead to delays, though the goal is ultimately to "streamline and optimise medical processes and improve accuracy", according to Chris Bown, Chief Officer for Health and Community Services.

Mr Bown said: "While this transition will ultimately result in long-term benefits for our patients and colleagues, we want to advise patients about the possibility of temporary delays and we kindly request that individuals only visit the emergency department if they are experiencing a medical emergency that requires immediate attention."

He added: "We have taken comprehensive measures to minimise any potential inconveniences that may arise during this transition. Our healthcare professionals will be supported by a team of IT experts to ensure a smooth transition, with minimal disruption to patient care."

The new electronic patient records system, IMS MAXIMS, is expected to go live across all departments from Sunday.

The system is expected to improve the accuracy and quality of medical information and make it more accessible for healthcare providers.

The move is scheduled to take place from the evening of 26 May to the morning of 28 May.
