Jersey FA will be visiting primary schools around the Island next week to try and get more young girls playing footie.
Their community coach Lucy Even is kicking off Girls Football Week and organising some all-girls sessions as well as a fun six-a-side kick-about for teenage girls.
It's part of a national event to get more girls into the sport which saw 16.000 people taking part across the UK last year.
Lucy Even who is a Highlands College student has already helped kick-start the initiative, having organised a fun six-a-side kick about for girls aged 15 - 18 from Highlands, Hautlieu and Jersey College for Girls last weekend for both girls who already know how to play as well as some new faces.
She said: "It was a really successful event, I initially thought of putting a day on after the PDC Scotland games. I thought about putting teams together form Hautlieu and Highlands for an 11 v 11 but then we looked at the format and decided to do something a bit more fun.
"My aim was to get as many girls as possible aware of the opportunities to play and enjoy football and on the day we had 22 girls participate. I am already thinking about doing it again and I would really like to open the event to other secondary schools and give more girls the opportunity to try football.
"Finally I would like to say to any girls thinking about getting involved with football it’s a fantastic sport, it gives you a great opportunity to meet new people, keep fit, helps build confidence, teaches you new life skills and most of all it’s fun."
CAPTIA Player Development Centre Director and Island Games gold medallist Jodie Botterill said: "It’s great to see that Lucy is linking into this national initiative through the provision of in curricular primary school sessions and football development initiatives aimed specifically at 15 - 18 year old girls."
The Jersey FA are running their next 'Waitrose Free Fun Night for Girls' tonight (22 April) at Haute Vallee 3G from 5.30 - 7.00 pm.
It’s open for all girls in school years one to six who can just show up tonight and register with a Jersey FA staff member.
