Someone out there is still reading up on how to start and run a petsitting business while another is learning how to whip up easy gluten-free cooking.
They are among a number of books that are long overdue at Jersey Library whose shelves have been getting barer over the last three years.
A total of 188 items are now missing from the library shelves, 70 this year alone - that's up more than 20% on the number of titles missing three years ago. They include works of both fiction and non-fiction books for adults and story books for children.
When books are missing, they get picked up by the library management system. Library staff or library users usually ask for them to be replaced but whether they are or not depends on availability, demand for that title and whether there are other copies of it already on the shelves.
