A local charity is calling for islanders to help restock their larder so that they can continue helping to feed some of Jersey’s most disadvantaged families.
With rocketing day-to-day living costs and salaries struggling to keep up, Brighter Futures set up a food store in November last year to help vulnerable families living on the breadline or hit with unexpected bills.
So far, ‘The Larder’ has helped several families by providing emergency essentials ranging from dried and tinned foods, to washing powder, shower gel, toothpaste and baby supplies – all thanks to the kind donations of others.
“In situations like this, even a small bag of food can make a big difference,” Brighter Futures CEO Ruth Brunton commented.
“We have been very fortunate that a number of individuals and organisations who have heard about the larder have very generously donated items so that we can keep the larder stocked. Clients at Brighter Futures are also encouraged to contribute items if they can so that we can continue to support families whenever it is needed."

But now they’re running low, and calling on locals to dig through their cupboards and donate so that they can continue to provide this emergency help to families in need.
All contributions are valued, but they’re particularly hoping for:
Packets of dried pasta
Jars of pasta sauce
Tins of baked beans, tuna, fruit, vegetables
Boxes of cereal
Tea bags
Coffee
Sugar
Anyone who wishes to donate can drop off their supplies to The Bridge, Le Geyt Road, St Saviour. For more information, visit Brighter Futures’ Facebook page or call 01534 449152.
