A tribunal which found in favour of a cleaner, has awarded him over £8,000 in compensation for unfair dismissal.
The Jersey Employment and Discrimination Tribunal was held in April and this week announced its decision, with Antonio Dos Reis winning the payment.
Mr Dos Reis took Cleanliving Ltd to the tribunal, claiming he had not received any pay from them for working on bank or public holidays.
Cleanliving Ltd counter-claimed, saying they had overpaid Mr Dos Reis, but the tribunal came down in favour of the cleaner.
Mr Dos Reis was also awarded £8,240 by the tribunal as compensation for unfair dismissal and £1.25 for holiday pay that he was owed.
A tribunal statement read: “Mr Dos Reis had been unfairly dismissed by Cleanliving, who must return the ‘week in hand’ wages and the £100 deposit he had lodged with Cleanliving Ltd against the safe return of his uniform.
“The respondent shall pay the sum of £1.25 to the applicant by way of outstanding bank holiday pay that accrued during the term of his employment.”
The tribunal discovered that Cleanliving had overpaid Mr Dos Reis during his three-year employment period with them, meaning he was actually owed just £1.25.
The tribunal ruled that Cleanliving Ltd’s counter claim for £1,009 was dismissed.
Cleanliving Ltd provides domestic, carpet and office learning services in the Island.
