Bus fares go up amid "rising costs and inflation"

Friday 31 March 2023

LibertyBus has announced an increase in fares alongside its new timetable "due to rising costs and inflation".

The company has confirmed its spring and summer timetable, which will be launched on Monday 3 April.

Changes to fares will also come in to effect, which the company says are "due to rising costs and inflation".

The new fares will be:

  • Pay As You Go: £2 (Adult) £1.03 (Children)

  • Contactless: £2.25 (Adult) £1.08 (Children)

  • Cash: £2.70 (Adult) and £1.30 (Children)

The monthly bus pass - which can be renewed for £47 - will increase by £3 per month, although LibertyBus have noted this is still cheaper than in 2012 when the pass was £52 per month.

Additionally, the timetable will see some new times, routes and the return of popular services to St. Brelade's Bay and the Jersey War Tunnels.

  • Route No 1 now has an early morning service starting at 05:18 from Gorey, Monday to Saturday with a connection to an early Route 22 to the airport (no change of bus needed) to allow customers to get to the airport before the first flight of the day. The same bus will then go to St Peter’s village and operate a Route 9 arriving at the airport at 06:20 before heading in to St Helier for 06:45.

  • There are also some changes to Route 20 where the "under utilised" link to Fort Regent has been replaced with connections to Castle Quay and the Radisson Hotel. The service will operate twice an hour between 09:00 and 17:00 Monday to Saturday.

  • The Townlink service will be operating a new Route 24 from the bus station, via Minden Place, David Place, up Trinity Hill, and then down Oaklands Lane. The bus will then travel through Grand Vaux every hour, coming into Town via the Central Market and Halkett Place. The new route will operate two peak journeys and continue hourly Monday through to Saturday until 17:30.

  • The Route 4 will be reintroduced on Sundays to enable increased service to Bonne Nuit and Bouley Bay.

  • The reintroduction of Route 28, which connects to the War Tunnels, includes an additional two journeys a day compared to last year.

  • Route 14 to St Brelade's Bay will be making a return on an hourly basis from 3 April, increasing to half hourly from 29 May.

  • Route 13 to La Hougue Bie, Gorey, and the Zoo will also be increasing to hourly throughout the day.

  • There will be some additional morning commuter journeys on Route 1A and Route 2 throughout the week during school term.

The company has also announced the launch of its new Liberty Bus app, which will be available on the App Store and Google Play.

It will show live bus locations, bus stop information and how busy the bus is, as well as allowing the user to save favourite bus stops and routes.

The full timetable can be viewed here.
