A top doctor visited Jersey’s hospital yesterday to celebrate a special donation.
President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Mr Eddie Morris attended the Maternity Unit in Jersey’s General Hospital.
He was invited by UK charity Baby Lifeline as a mark of its shared mission with Jersey charity Philip’s Footprints to better the island’s maternity services for Jersey’s mothers, babies, and health professionals. The two charities have worked in tandem to invest more than £94,000 into the island’s maternity services since Philip's Footprints launch of its Safer Pregnancy Project in 2016.
“A whole range of monitoring equipment has been provided as a result of this, as well as implementing specific, continuing professional development training, for midwives and obstetricians. Exciting events have been staged, raising the profile and the important work of the charities," Jude Ledger, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Baby Lifeline explained.

Specifically, the collaborative investment has funded more than 330 training places for healthcare professionals, antenatal equipment, and Community Midwife homebirth bags.
Yesterday marked a special and important donation to the Maternity Unit in Jersey General Hospital.
Patron of Baby Lifeline and chair of its multi-professional advisory panel Mr Morris presented a new monitor designated to enabling clinicians to monitor women in labour, whilst also taking the opportunity to meet the Maternity Unit’s health professionals.
UPDATE: An earlier version of this article referred to the attendance of Patron of Baby Lifeline and Call the Midwife actress Linda Bassett. The Government has since confirmed that Ms Bassett had to pull out of the engagement at short notice.
