A candlelit vigil is to be held in the Royal Square this evening in memory of broadcaster Gary Burgess, who passed away last week aged 46.
Organised by Cheyenne O’Connor, the vigil will be taking place at 18:30 to remember Gary, while also raising money for charity.
Ms O'Connor said that there would be a number of speakers at the 'Remembering Gary' event, and that local musician Rick Jones would be playing an acoustic set.
On a Facebook page promoting the event, Ms O'Connor added that everyone should bring their own candle and that there will be a collection bucket to raise money to be passed on to Gary's husband, Alan, to be passed on to a charity of his choice.
The 46-year-old passed away on New Year's Day at Jersey Hospice. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer in November 2020, but continued his work as a reporter at ITV Channel until August 2021.
Following his passing, an outpouring of tributes came in for the journalist and broadcaster, with people labelling him "one in a million," and was praised by politicans and members of the public alike for his "courage" and "inspirational" outlook.

In a tribute, Laura Clayton, an Express reporter and former friend and colleague of Gary, described how his "innate interest in current affairs coupled with his genuine love of talking to everyone made him an immensely skilled broadcaster."
She added: "Gary saw the goodness in everyone - and he radiated happiness and fun everywhere he went."
"You did a lot of good, Gary. A lot of good."
