Cars stuck on Clipper after ramp failure

Tuesday 24 December 2019

Condor has had to provide hire cars for passengers after dozens of vehicles were stuck on board the Clipper when its ramp broke down.

The fault came to light shortly after the boat left Portsmouth yesterday afternoon (23 December).

"Condor has provided hire cars for 31 passengers arriving in Guernsey today on Commodore Clipper after a fault prevented the ship’s internal ramp from being deployed so vehicles could not be brought ashore," a spokesperson for the ferry company said.

They added that repairs are being undertaken with a view to having the vessel back in service and fully operational for her next scheduled service on 27 December.

However, information posted to the Condor website since said that the service has now been cancelled.

A notice posted on the Condor website this morning read: "We are sorry to advise that due to a technical fault with Commodore Clipper’s internal ramp, it has been necessary to cancel your sailing on Friday 27th December.

"We currently have availability on Condor Liberation’s sailing on Friday 27th , Saturday 28th , Sunday 29th and Monday 30th December.

"Please let us help you amend your travel plans by calling us on 0345 609 1026, or contact your agent or local port for options."
