Channel Island shoppers with limited mobility will be able to get around their local Waitrose store easier after the chain introduced new scooters for customers.
The scooters are said to be top of the range mobility scooters which are safer and sturdier than previously, and also 100% recyclable. Disabled, elderly or those with a medical condition will be able to request a scooter at the customer service desk.
Edward Trevor, chairman of local organisation Shopmobility in Jersey, said: “I am always looking for retailers to give more opportunities to disabled people and the scooters will provide an invaluable service for Waitrose customers and further improving their shopping experience."
Waitrose has branches throughout the Channel Islands, at Vallee des Vaux, Red Houses, Rue Des Pres in St Saviour.
Peter Slater, branch manager of Waitrose Red Houses, said: “Our customers’ welfare is the upmost importance to us and our business. We want to ensure that our branches are suitable for all customers and hope that these new scooters will support those with limited mobility to have an enjoyable experience within our supermarkets.”
Customers should ask a member of staff if they require assistance.
