Hotel carpark thieves allegedly targeting Channel Islands cars

Monday 10 June 2024

Increasing numbers of Channel Island ferry passengers are boycotting a hotel in Poole after thieves reportedly targeted Guernsey and Jersey registered vehicles in its carpark.

It's been claimed that seven vehicles have been broken in to this week while parked at the Premier Inn at Holes Bay near the ferry terminal.

In a warning message posted to other Condor Ferries Users via a Facebook group, one guest at the hotel said that at least one of the vehicles belonged to a man from Jersey, while the others were described as "CI vehicles".

The alleged break-ins come just over a month after at least four Guernsey registered cars were targeted by thieves at the same hotel.

On that occasion, each motorist is understood to have reported the damage and thefts to the local police force.

Express has asked Dorset Police about the matter but had not received a response at the time of writing.

A spokesperson for Premier Inn said: "Sadly car crime is a common issue and not exclusive to our car parks – it happens anywhere and everywhere from council-run car parks to on-street parking and even people’s own property."

Members of the Condor Ferries Users Group on Facebook responded to the latest thefts with suggestions of other hotels in the Poole area, which reportedly have safer car parks than the Premier Inn at Holes Bay.

A number of commenters said they won't stay at that hotel again because of the recent thefts.

The Premier Inn at Holes Bay is advertised as being close to the ferry terminal, with "free on-site parking available".

Motorists are advised that they'll need to give their car registration details to reception on arrival.
