Children send loving surprise to care home residents

Primary school pupils have been hard at work to “brighten up” the Valentine’s Day of elderly care home residents by surprising them with some love-ly cards.

A student at Grouville School came up with the scheme to spread the love from young to old and make the residents smile on the annual day of affection.

Year 6 pupil Rodanthe Guy-Le Maistre came up with the idea to make some Valentine’s cards with her friends to give to the elderly residents at Lavender Villa and some of their carers.

Her teacher, Debbie Buesnel, said that Rodanthe thought of the “great idea to make each of the elderly residents at Lavender Villa a very special Valentine’s Day card to make them smile” and then “she recruited a little team of friends”, who gave up their lunchtime to make the “lovely little surprises”.

Talking about her heartfelt gesture, Rodanthe said: “I feel really happy that we were able to make such beautiful cards and I think it will brighten up the residents' day. We have made so many gorgeous cards, we can even give some to the kind carers because they do a fantastic job there too.”

Mrs Buesnel added: “All of the children felt proud to be part of the experience and we hope the residents enjoy them as much as the children enjoyed making them.”
