It’s almost become a sign that the festive season is upon us – the launch of the Channel Islands Christmas Lottery.
There are now just twelve weeks to go before the big day, and if previous lotteries are anything to go by one lucky winner or group of winners could be more than a million pounds better off on 20th December
The value of the top prize rises with the number of ticket sales. Last year’s winner – an office syndicate in Jersey – scooped more than £1.1m. The second prize of £100,000 also went to a ticket sold in the Island. The third prize was £25,000.
All the proceeds from lottery sales in Jersey go to local causes. In 2015 that amounted to almost half a million pounds.
Deputy Murray Norton is one those encouraging Islanders to go out and buy tickets: “it’s an important source of much-needed funds for local good causes. The Channel Islands Lottery in Jersey changes lives and I would urge people to support the Christmas draw responsibly.”
