Grand Designs... kids' style

A local construction company is encouraging children to ‘dream big’ in a competition to design their ideal home – including moats, water flumes, dungeons or even helipads... No planning permission required!

The social media competition, run by GMK Construction, aims to ‘get children’s creative juices flowing’ in an effort to counteract the impact of the covid-19 lockdown.

Greg Kelly, chief executive and father-of-two, knows "all too well the pressures on families at this time".

"We'd like to give kids something to occupy themselves with that will let their imaginations run wild."

Entrants are encouraged to consider their local environment and utilise everything that the island offers. It could see designs of elaborate beach huts, secret woodland tree houses or remodelling of Jersey's castles.

"The competition should be a celebration of our island and I hope one which the whole community with get behind."

Entries will be shared on GMK's Facebook page, and two children with the top designs will each win a £50 goodie bag.

"Who knows? We may stumble across the next 'Grand Design' in the search for our winner!"
