Covid freedom concert “victim of own success”

A free concert aiming to celebrate the lifting of the main covid restrictions has been cancelled because “overwhelming” demand and a clashing event elsewhere meant that resources would be “very stretched.”

13-piece band Jersey Bounce were due to be the main feature of the Hawksford-sponsored event at Howard Davis Park on Saturday 11 September.

The planned concert was the result of a pledge the band made during the first lockdown.

They raised money for Jersey Hospice with a virtual concert and promised that, if they could raise £1,000 – a total they ended up tripling – they would put on a free concert.

But, with just a week to go until the big day, the band announced “with a very heavy heart” that ‘Live and Local with Jersey Bounce’ was no longer happening because they had been “victims of our own success.”

“When large numbers attend a concert there are lots of points to be considered and planned for. We must make sure there is an appropriate infrastructure for you. We now need to follow the latest advice regarding your health and safety and cancel the concert on our planned date,” the group explained.

“Unfortunately for us, there is another very large event on the same night next week and this now means certain resources, would be very stretched.”

Jersey Bounce thanked islanders for their patience and understanding, and said that it was “continuing to work with the Police and Bailiff’s Office to work on another suitable date in the very near future.”
