Will ferries' new safety message sink or swim?

Thursday 26 March 2015

It’s already had over 4,000 hits on YouTube but will Condor’s new safety rap float your boat?

Every trip between Poole and the Channel Islands will now set sail with a safety message rapped out on video.

“The silky smooth captain, sassy stewardess and street-wise steward” have been hired to bring some fun onboard and is part of the company’s brand new mission to provide “Good Times”.

It’s designed to be fun and catchy with rhymes like "Hey ladies, hey ladies, you have to realise sharp objects can't go on our slide so leave those heels behind" to help passengers remember their safety instructions.

The company’s Executive Director – Commercial, Alicia Andrews said: “We’re really proud of the new safety video, it’s been a very fun project to work on, and we’re delighted with the results. Our brief was simple, we wanted something a little bit different, something that our passengers would sit up and take notice of, and which would appeal to all members of the family. We think that the rap, with the Good Times messaging does just that!

“Ferry travel is very family-friendly, there are no restrictions on the amount of luggage you can bring – you can pack everything in to your car, and off you go. We hope that our passengers, whether they are frequent travellers or joining us for the first time this summer will enjoy the video and their Good Times experience onboard Condor Liberation as we set sail to Jersey and Guernsey.”

While some have found the video funny, most viewers aren't seeing the funny side - one questions whether it's an early April Fool, another has said they'd immediately use the life jacket to abandon ship if forced to watch it!
