Condor makes “drastic cuts” to save cash

Condor has made “drastic cuts” across its business, including job losses, to save money following lockdown, it has been announced.

Issuing a statement in response to questions from Express, the ferry provider said it has had to take “very difficult decisions in relation to staff on our high-speed vessels” due to their financial situation.

Express understands that Condor has reduced its workforce by around 50 staff members, but the company has refused to confirm the exact number of job losses.

It follows news that crew members’ jobs were at risk as the virus crisis continued to take its toll on the business.

Outlining the rationale for the job cuts, a spokesperson for Condor said: “As an industry, we are experiencing a very challenging time with no passenger sailings, no income and paying out refunds since March, all of which are having an enormous impact on our business.

“Drastic cuts have had to be made throughout to reduce costs and protect the future of the company and this includes taking very difficult decisions in relation to staff on our high speed vessels.”

They added: “Our policy is not to discuss employment matters with external parties or media and our utmost priority is supporting those colleagues affected.”
