Constable’s postponed trial to take place next week

The Constable of St. John is to stand trial next week over allegations he drove ‘dangerously’ on a country lane last summer.

Chris Taylor’s day-long trial was due to take place on 17 April, but was pushed back after the island went into lockdown to curb the spread of covid-19.

Constable Taylor first appeared in court in January, when he entered a ‘not guilty’ plea.

He holds the position of Assistant Chief Minister and Chair of the Migration Policy Development Board, but voluntarily decided to  ‘step aside’ from his duties until the legal proceedings are concluded shortly after being charged. 

Jersey’s Law Officer’s Department has now confirmed that the Constable will be appearing before the Magistrate’s Court at 10:30 next Tuesday.
