Countdown to the Games begins

Monday 20 October 2014

Anyone who doesn’t know when next year’s NatWest Island Games starts can get a reminder every time they head east through Jersey’s tunnel.

Normans in Commercial Buildings has had its second makeover this year and is now sporting a countdown clock and an eight-metre high version of the Jersey 2015 logo.

Local artist Matt Daly who transformed the landmark building back in June as part of Skipton Open Studios has been painting over his granite-effect mural to produce the new designs.

Matt said: “I’m delighted to been asked again to be involved in a creative way to support and promote such an important local event and I guess if anyone has to paint out the existing mural, it should be me!”

The timing of the Games coincides with a special anniversary for Normans - the company is celebrating its 175th anniversary next year.

Games Director Steve Bailey said: “Our relationship with Normans has gone from strength to strength through their support of Jersey 2015. Having the countdown clock in such a prominent position is a fantastic way of ensuring that Islanders are aware of when this major event is taking place. With around fifteen thousand cars entering the tunnel eastbound every day, we are thrilled to see this project come to fruition.”

24 islands and around 3,000 athletes are taking part in the NatWest Island Games being held from 27 June to 2 July 2015.
