Customs win Swimarathon RBC Corporate Challenge Cup

Saturday 01 April 2017

For the fifth time in a row, the Customs & Immigration team has won the RBC Corporate Challenge Cup at the Swimarathon.

The team swam a total of 97 laps, just one more lap than their nearest rival, in 55 minutes. Over the last five years, they have swum a total of 485 laps, the equivalent distance of Jersey to France.

Neil Hutton, captain of the Customs & Immigration team commented: "We are delighted to have won the RBC Corporate Challenge Cup for the fifth year running and pride ourselves on the fact that we have been unbeaten for so long. All of the team - except me! - swim regularly at all levels and increase their training in the run up to the Swimarathon. We are grateful to everyone who sponsors and supports us and we will be back next year to defend our title once again!"

Tim Houghton, Head of Client Experience & Channel Strategy from event sponsors RBC Wealth Management added: "We launched the RBC Corporate Challenge Cup to encourage businesses to take part and introduce a bit of fun competition among our peers. I took part as one of eight RBC teams and our family team managed just over 50 laps. This gives you an idea of what an incredible lap count the Customs & Immigration Team achieves each year. They fully deserve to retain the cup and we will be matching their team’s fundraising sum as part of the prize."

This year’s Swimarathon raised a record breaking £130,141 for local causes with 50% donated to five charities supporting Jersey’s young people.
