Don’t lend out your passport say Police

Wednesday 02 April 2014

The Police are warning Islanders not to lend their passports to anyone after catching a number of teenagers using fake ID to try and get into pubs and clubs.

In the last two months officers have dealt with around twenty under-aged teenagers trying to get into licensed premises with borrowed passports to convince door staff that they are over 18.

The Police say they will seize any passport used by someone who doesn’t own it, and return it to the Passport Office to be destroyed. The real owner will then have to apply and pay for a new one.

Sergeant Leo Sheridan from the Licensing Support Team said: “One of the five key priorities for the Licensing Support Team is protecting young people from harm. This includes from the dangers of alcohol and also from the harm caused by exposure to potential Child Sexual Exploitation whilst under the influence of alcohol.”
