A 21-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a pedestrian was seriously injured by a car spotted performing a trick late at night.
Police said in an appeal for more information that the collision happened around 23:45 on Friday on La Route du Nord near St. John’s Church.
Officers said they had received reports of a grey Hyundai hatchback doing a ‘burnout’- the act of keeping a vehicle stationary and spinning its wheels, resulting in the build-up of smoke – “before hitting a pedestrian and leaving the scene.”
“The pedestrian received substantial injuries to his side and was treated at A&E before [being] released in the early hours,” they added.
They said a 21-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and that investigations remain ongoing.
The Force would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or who may have dash cam footage of the vehicle.
Anyone who may have seen this or who has any information is asked to contact police on 612612 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online form.
