Easter Eggs-travaganza - and not just for children!

Tuesday 15 April 2014

There’s some cracking good fun to be had this Easter but it’s not just an eggs-iting time for youngsters – some Durrell residents are in for an eggs-tra special treat too.

The orangutans, gorillas and bears will be given some Easter eggs this weekend but there won’t be any chocolate in sight and it will be a challenge for them to discover what food is inside.

Visitors can see the animals open their eggs on Saturday from midday and some of the smaller mammals like the lemurs will get theirs on Sunday.  But it’s not the only thing Durrell have organised, there’s a scavenger hunt around the Wildlife Park all weekend and an Easter bonnet competition on Sunday which will be judged by Lee Durrell. And with no age restrictions, even adults can get creative!

And you can start getting your bonnet ready today at Hougue Bie where you can also learn all about Easter traditions. Jersey Heritage’s three day Bells, Bunnies and Bonnets event starts at 10am. As well as a trail to find bunnies hidden around the historic site in Grouville, you can discover more about the French tradition of bell-ringing at this time of year.

If that’s not enough egg-citement for one week, why not hop along to Le Moulin de Quétivel on Saturday between 10 am and 2 pm where you can actually meet the Easter Bunny. He’ll give you all the info you need to complete the National Trust’s Easter Egg Trail. The Miller will be waiting at the end to give each eggs-plorer a chocolate treat to take home. The Trust say booking is essential, call 483193 to reserve your place.
