States primary schools relying on fewer supply teachers

Friday 05 August 2016

The number of supply teachers being used in States non-fee paying primary schools has been cut by almost a third..

According to a Freedom of Information request 272 supply teachers were used last year. So far this year the services of 182 teachers have been called on. But, there is, of course, one term left in this calendar year.

Twenty-two different teachers have filled in at La Moye, and just six at Springfield.

The most dramatic drop in the number of different teachers being employed on a supply basis is at d’Auvergne. Last year it employed 41 different supply teachers over the whole year, so far it has employed 19 different teachers.

There was also a drop of 20 at Samaras, from 33 last year to 13 this.

The request also asked about the annual budget for each of the Island's States non-fee paying primary schools. Their combined budget for 2016 was almost £25million.  Of that almost £2million went to Rouge Bouillon.
