Environmental "prayer for humanity" in town

Saturday 13 November 2021

Local environmentalists will be gathering in the Royal Square this afternoon and saying a "prayer for humanity".

At midday, a vigil will be held in the Royal Square to time with the end of COP26.

Speeches and songs will feature in the ceremony organised by the team behind the 'die in' protests outside banks in Jersey in August.

Organisers said: "We will hold a prayer for humanity to remember our role in preserving the delicate eco systems that sustain life and the interrelating of human, animal, plant and landscape. May we return to loving and protecting the home to which we belong.

"May we draw on our courage and creativity in the face of the crisis, and remember that money is for supporting life, and not for making more money.

"May compassion and wisdom come to replace greed and ignorance for the benefit of all beings."
