Extreme weather for extreme challenge
Tuesday 13 September 2016
The weather proved an extra challenge this weekend for the 19 teams who took on this year's Silkworth Challenge.
But they braved the elements to swim, run, kayak, cycle and coasteer their way around the Island as fast as they could to raise money for the charity.
Silkworth's Marketing Manger Amy Rebours said: "Competitors experienced high winds and swell in the kayaking and swimming stages, with wet roads and mud to contend with in the running and cycling stages. Nonetheless the 19 teams who competed were 100% in and scaled the Island's coastlines in great spirit.
The De La Salle Gradebusters were this year's overall winners, Team Whomp got second and Standard Bank's Team "Failure Is Not An Option came in just 30 seconds behind.
Organisers say it looks like the event has raised around £15,000, money that will go towards the development of the charity's Clubhouse, a drop-in facility for Islanders dealing with drug or alcohol issues.
