A local PT with experience of abuse has started an intense 48-hour running challenge to help some of Jersey’s most vulnerable children.
Lewis Smith (31) will be running four miles every four hours over 48 hours - including through the night - between midday and Sunday at 08:00 with an ambition to raise £5,000 for the NSPCC.
The charity is close to his heart - not only because he is a father of three daughters, but because of his own childhood experience.
“I chose this charity and am doing this challenge because I grew up around a very abusive man, who was extremely violent to my mam,” he explained.
“...The thought of other kids growing up in that fear gets to me, especially now I have my own children.”
Lewis will be running through the night, and plans to sleep when he can and has carefully planned his food to help give him energy boosts and sustain him throughout the challenge.
But he won’t be alone - friends and clients from his business, Gymsmith, will be joining him on the mission.
He has already raised £890 and is hoping islanders will donate throughout the weekend to his JustGiving page.
