Monday 28 January 2019

A ferry passenger has been charged with drugs offences after over £100,000 worth of cocaine and cannabis was seized at Elizabeth Harbour.

Customs and Immigration officers confiscated what was described as a "commercial quantity" of Class A substance cocaine, as well as cannabis in herbal and resin form on Friday 25 January.

According to Customs officials, the total street value of the drugs seized stands at around £107,000.

Passenger and resident of Solihull, West Midlands, Daryl Richard France was subsequently arrested and charged with three breaches of the Customs and Excise (Jersey) Law 1999.

The 28-year-old appeared in the Magistrate's Court this morning at 10:00 to be formally indicted.

Customs and Immigration are now reminding the public that they can help tackle drug smuggling by calling 0800 735 5555, where they can speak with a Customs Officer "in complete confidence".
