An 18-year-old, who rode a motorcycle along an unlit pedestrian walkway at night so fast that Police had to drive 50mph to keep up with him, has been fined £250.

Bruno Neubauer Rode his yellow Honda along Route Orange in St. Brelade on the night of 3 April, the Magistrate’s Court heard on Wednesday, and appeared to be speeding.

St. Brelade Centenier Amanda Wright, prosecuting, said the speed of Neubauer's vehicle was not measured but States of Jersey Police officers, who noticed him at 23:20, had to drive at 50mph to catch up with him. The road has a speed limit of 30mph.

Neubauer turned into a car park and cut through it onto the pedestrian walkway, which is regularly used by people living nearby. He admitted the charge of careless driving.

Advocate Paul Nicholls, defending, said Neubauer was "a young man of impeccable character" and pointed out: "There was no damage, there was no injury here.

"In a different era this could have been dealt with by a word of advice."

As well as the fine Magistrate Bridget Shaw endorsed Neubauer's licence.

She told him: "Don't let this happen again."
