Thursday 09 January 2020

A three-day town event, a festival in St. Brelade, film screenings in all 12 parishes and a large-scale public art piece are among the celebrations planned to mark Liberation 75.

Officially announcing the plans today, the team behind Liberation 75 says this year’s events promises to be “the largest and most extensive celebration of Jersey that we have ever hosted".

“This year’s anniversary is especially important as it provides an opportunity to share the stories of those who lived through The Occupation,” they added.

In addition to Liberation Day, a programme of exclusive, celebratory events and outreach projects has been produced by the Liberation 75 team and their partners.

While most of the details are being kept under wraps at this stage, here are some of the highlights.

ArtHouse Jersey is working with British artist Helen Marshall – who founded the People’s Picture – for a public art piece that will be unveiled on 24 April at the Bus Station

The 'Face of Liberation’ will be a photo mosaic featuring the faces of Jersey inhabitants, past and present, covering over 1,000 square feet.

ArtHouse Jersey are asking all islanders to send selfies, or pictures of their friends, family and ancestors to form the mosaic before 15 March.

In addition, the charity will be running community projects aimed at gathering new stories and memories about the Liberation, along with asking islanders what freedom means to them.
