Lottery first prize reaches £525,000

Thursday 06 November 2014

Lottery tickets are selling fast and anyone who’s got one is now in with a chance of winning more than half a million pounds in time for Christmas.

The first prize in this year's Channel Islands Christmas lottery has already reached £525,000 and with six weeks still to go until the draw on 18 December there’s a good chance there will be a repeat of last year with the lucky winner taking home more than £1 million.

Each ticket gives you two chances of winning a prize in the main draw and you can also win up to £5,000 with the scratch card. The second-draw prize is £50,000, the third-draw prize is £25,000 and there are 50 prizes of £500.

Lottery ticket sales throughout last year helped raise almost £700,000 for local charities.

The money helped fund a major refurbishment at Little Sisters of the Poor and meant St John Ambulance could buy a replacement support vehicle.

Other organisations to benefit included Jersey Cancer Trust, Jersey Hospice Care, Jersey Brain Tumour Charity and Brighter Futures.
