Islanders are being encouraged to head down to Albert Pier tomorrow for paella, churros and sangria to celebrate the arrival of a replica of the first vessel to circumnavigate the world in Jersey.
Nao Victoria replaces the previously announced planned visit of El Galeón, a replica of a 17th century Spanish merchant ship which suffered mechanical issues and had to be confined to port in Saint Malo.
The ship, which was built in 1991, is be open to the public until Sunday, with tickets available from a stall on the Albert Pier.
The Spanish food festival, which was planned to coincide with the arrival of El Galeón, will still be going ahead, from 12:00 to 20:00 from Friday to Sunday.
Complementing the food offered by Classic Catering and Mr Churros, there will be live music between 16:00 and 20:00 across the three days.
The live music line-up is as follows:
Friday: 4pm - Wici band; 5pm: Alfie Butel; 6pm: Acoustic Shock.
Saturday: 4pm - Wici band; 5pm: Colin Lever; 6pm: Acoustic Shock.
Sunday: 4pm - Kacey Godfrey; 5pm - Cindy Marques; 6pm: Nic Dinnie.
Nao Victoria is a full-size replica of the only survivor of the five ships that set sail on Portuguese-born navigator Ferdinand Magellan's global expedition from Spain in 1519.
The ship – commanded by Juan Sebastian Elcano – returned to the port of Seville in 1522 after sailing around the world in an epic voyage which saw Magellan killed in the Battle of Mactan in 1521 in the present-day Philippines.
