A former Beaulieu student has said she is “so proud” after representing Jersey on a prestigious TV quiz show last week – and helping her Oxford University team advance to the next round.
Daisy Pendergast appeared on BBC2’s University Challenge in an episode that aired on 11 November.
The 21-year-old was Deputy Head Girl at Beaulieu Convent School from 2020 to 2021, and is now studying for a Master’s degree in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford.
Daisy described being in the University Challenge studio as busy and exciting – adding that "pressing the buzzer was definitely as exciting as I'd imagined it would be".
"It felt so surreal to be physically on the set, especially at the beginning of the match when they started playing the iconic theme tune which I'd heard so many times watching at home," she said
"It was such an incredible experience. I was so proud to represent my college and Jersey.
"I was so nervous and it did feel like a lot of pressure, but I was there with my teammates and we all supported each other."
Daisy said that her family were "really excited and proud", adding that she grew up watching University Challenge – which is her Grandad's favourite television show.
Beaulieu’s Headteacher, Matthew Burke, praised the former student for her achievement and performance on the show.
He said: "We are incredibly proud of Daisy Pendergast, a former Beaulieu student, for her outstanding performance on University Challenge representing St Edmund Hall, Oxford.
"Daisy's impressive knowledge and composure, particularly in answering the pivotal question that turned the tide for her team, is a testament to her hard work and dedication."
He added: "Knowing Daisy and her family, we are certain that the strong academic foundation she received at Beaulieu has played a part in her continued success.
"Her achievement is a wonderful reflection of the high-performance levels our current and former students go on to achieve, and we look forward to seeing her accomplish even more in the future.
"Congratulations, Daisy – you continue to inspire us all!"
The broadcast schedule for the next round of University Challenge has not yet been released.
