More foster carers needed to help island's most vulnerable children

The Fostering and Adoption Jersey team is starting the new year with a bid to recruit 10 more families willing to "do something amazing in 2018 and change a child's life."

Last year, 10 families applied to become foster carers - seven more than in 2016 - but more families are still needed to give a home to the island's "most vulnerable children."

"Fostering and Adoption Jersey hope to raise awareness of foster care in the community and encourage people to open their hearts and homes to local children in need of love and support. Foster care is challenging but incredibly rewarding; it can help turn children’s lives around and establish hope for their future.

"2017 has been a pioneering year for recruitment of new foster carers, partly due to the added focus on publicity and additional campaigns. This has resulted in 10 applications from prospective carers this year compared to three in 2016. This increase gives us a positive starting point from which to continue to grow the service as we aim to recruit another 10 families in 2018.

"Fostering remains a challenging task where foster carers and their families give their time, commitment and warmth of their family homes to children who are in desperate need of this. The New Year often brings with it the need for a new start and positive change.

"Fostering and Adoption Jersey would like to call out to all islanders who may be in the perfect position to provide a caring home for local children in need and bring positive change to their lives and those of local children."

The team will be on hand to answer questions and chat with prospective carers at the Library from 10:00 until 14:30 on Saturday 13 and Wednesday 17 January.
