Free postcards to keep islanders connected

Tuesday 14 April 2020

Islanders will be receiving two free postcards to keep in touch with their loved ones as well as expressing their gratitude for frontline and essential workers this week.

Courtesy of Jersey Post, every household will this week receive a ‘Thank you’ and ‘Thinking of you’ postcard, which they can send for free to any address in the island throughout the month of April.

It is part of Jersey Post’s island-wide campaign, ‘Connecting Jersey’, which aims to help islanders unite in their efforts to recognise, thank, and pass on their gratitude to “the huge number of dedicated, committed individuals who are continuing to work incredibly hard to keep Jersey moving, fed, cared for, and safe”.

Islanders are invited to write a message of thanks and gratitude on the ‘Thank you’ postcard before sending it to a worker they know within any frontline business, health and care workers, cleaning providers, essential teachers, media organisations, food deliverers, waste managers and community volunteers, or any other “incredible individuals currently giving a valuable service and potentially exposing themselves to covid-19”.

Islanders can use the second card to write to anyone who might appreciate hearing from them at this time, a relative, neighbour or friend.

The cards can be posted in any box around the island – during the allocated two hours’ daily exercise – free of charge.

Jersey Post will then collect, sort, and deliver the messages of appreciation and positivity to islanders.

The postcards will be delivered along with Jersey Post’s Business2Home brochure, which will provide households with the services and contact details of over 100 businesses offering household delivery of their services locally.

In the current climate of enforced social distancing, home-schooling and remote-working, Jersey Post says it hopes that this will help islanders access products and services they need, whilst also reinforcing the Government’s 'stay at home' order.

Anyone receiving messages is being encouraged to take a photo and upload them to Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #connectingjersey to spread the messages of thanks even further.

“We’ve seen how hugely uplifted our staff have been when customers have left messages of thanks for our frontline workers who are working so hard to keep the Island moving at this exceptional time, but we know there are so many more doing fantastic, essential work under challenging circumstances,” David McGrath, Head of Marketing at Jersey Post, said.

“We wanted to help extend this to all frontline workers and we recognise that our postal network can reach and connect every island home daily.

“We really hope islanders enjoy this initiative and send as many thoughtful messages as possible; it really will mean so much to the individuals receiving the cards.”
