Free workouts in new town gym

Saturday 16 May 2015

It's an exercise programme popular all over the UK and America and now it's muscling in on Jersey too.

A new 6,000 square foot gym is opening this morning next to Normans in Commercial Buildings with free CrossFit sessions so that you can workout whether its a good way for you to keep fit.

The strength and conditioning programme claims to be suitable for everyone however fit they are and offers a different kind of workout - a cross between a personal training session, fitness bootcamp and a team sport.

Each session includes everything from weightlifting and basic gymnastics to rowing and kettleball training.

Jersey CrossFit’s Phil Cuming said: “This is the first opportunity to give it a go in Jersey. It's become very popular in the UK and USA because it has created a new community of athletes and new types of competition. There are people were previously put off by the gym who are interested because of the team / community element.

“The Throw Down is a demonstration day which also includes free public sessions. The idea is to promote our different approach to fitness and show that we are a community rather than a bunch of individuals going to a gym.

"People new to CrossFit can expect to try something new in a fitness environment unique in Jersey. They'll be able to sample new methods which might make them rethink the way they exercise."

The Throw Down kicks off at 8.30 am and anyone can pop along throughout the day to have a go or watch some of the new gym's members in action and trying out some Olympic Weightlifting.
