Deadline tomorrow for town rates

Thursday 30 October 2014

Townies have until the end of tomorrow to pay their rates bill – and the Constable has promised that they’ll sort out a deal with anyone who can’t pay it all in one go.

The rates bills for 2014 are finally due for St Helier residents by the end of this week, and parish Constable Simon Crowcroft has warned that any bills left unpaid will be hit with a 10% surcharge.

And he says that if anyone can’t pay the whole thing in one go, they should pop into the Town Hall by Friday afternoon to arrange a payment plan with staff.

“We are anxious not to put a surcharge on people, and there has been a lot of publicity given to the deadline in the Town Cryer and through our social media,” he said.

“The department is quite keen to make arrangements for people who cannot pay it all in one go, if they come in to see us before the deadline we can agree a repayment plan.

“The parish bends over backwards to assist parishioners who find it difficult to pay in one go.”

The rates bills are payable by owners and occupiers, and fall on whoever owned or was in the property at the start of the year in question.
